Senior Test Engineer
As a Senior Test and Environment Engineer at Allpoints Fibre Network, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of our broadband network infrastructure. You will take the lead in designing, implementing, and executing advanced testing strategies, working closely with the Test Environments Manager and cross-functional teams. Your expertise will drive the continuous improvement of testing processes, tools, and methodologies, contributing to the delivery of robust and scalable network services. This role would suit someone with Network Engineering experience with knowledge of end to end testing supporting the customer journey.
We have offices in Reading, Exeter and Fareham and we would hope that the successful candidate is happy to travel within the South West area on a regular basis. There may also be the requirement to work out of hours on occasion.
What you will be doing:
Advanced Test Strategy and Execution:
- Support the development of comprehensive test strategies and plans for complex network services, upgrades, and infrastructure changes.
- Execute and oversee advanced functional, non-functional, integration, and performance testing.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks and scripts to optimize test coverage and efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Test Environments Manager to ensure alignment of test strategies with business and technical requirements.
Test Environment Management:
- Work closely with the Test Environments Manager to configure, maintain, and optimize test environments, ensuring they closely replicate production conditions.
- Oversee the management of test data, tools, and resources, ensuring their availability and effectiveness for testing activities.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues related to test environments, minimizing disruptions and ensuring stability.
Defect Management and Resolution:
- Lead the defect management process, including the identification, documentation, tracking, and resolution of defects.
- Collaborate with development, network operations, and QA teams to ensure timely and effective resolution of issues.
- Provide detailed defect analysis and reporting to the Test Environments Manager and relevant stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the testing process, focusing on efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies related to network testing and automation.
- Lead the implementation of new tools and methodologies to enhance testing processes and reduce manual effort.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with Test Environment Manager, developers, network engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on testing activities and timelines.
- Communicate test progress, risks, and issues to the Test Environments Manager and other stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
- Contribute to cross-departmental collaboration to ensure quality is embedded throughout the project lifecycle.
Mentorship and Leadership:
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior test engineers, guiding them in best practices, tools, and methodologies.
- Foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the testing team.
- Act as a point of escalation for complex testing issues, providing expert guidance and solutions.
About you:
You will have
- Experience in Quality Assurance and Testing, with a focus on large-scale, high availability environments.
- Experience of network technologies such as Cisco, Juniper and Nokia.
- Proven experience of test environments and end to end test processes.
- Proven track record of leading complex testing projects in the telecoms and broadband sector.
- Advanced proficiency in test automation tools (e.g. Selenium, JUnit, TestNG) and scripting languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript).
- Deep understanding of performance testing tools (e.g. JMeter, LoadRunner) and methodologies.
- Educated to Degree standard or relevant industry experience.
