Network Platform Engineer
The Network Platform Engineer at APFN will work within the Networks function of the CTO office and will contribute to network systems administration, design and platform engineering, and will lead on using automation technologies to make engineering and operational efficiencies.
The role will have accountability for high/low level design and the implementation of AFPNs network systems infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration with our network, systems and services. You will work within the CTO office, collaborating within the Networks function and with other APFN teams, the role will contribute to project delivery, technology development and R&D.
We are looking for someone with a knowledge of Systems Administration, Platform Engineering, a passion for infrastructure automation, and a demonstrable career background in Telco/Service Provider.
What you will be doing:
- Contributing to the platform infrastructure design and implementation. High level / low level documentation across network systems components to support the current, transformation and future APFN needs.
- Analysing deployment and automation technologies and making recommendations to influence technical direction.
- Use of automation tooling, pipelining and scripting, etc to drive efficiencies in systems architecture, implementation, capacity and performance management.
- Reviewing, maintaining, and improving platform standards to ensure they continue to meet best practice guidelines and are fully documented.
- Engineering build and operational escalation support, providing hands-on expertise and excellent documentation
- Collaborating to optimise network systems for resilience, performance, security and scalability
- Engaging with the networks, systems and project teams, to ensure solutions are functional and tested End to End, with documented dependencies.
- Interface with BSS/OSS Systems development teams to enable the orchestration and integration of the Network OSS platform with vendor OSS and other network systems (including Network OLT, BNG, RADIUS, DHCP, etc)
- Drive the components of technology pertinent to successful execution of the Technology Group objectives.
- Ensure systems and solutions are developed, acquired or deployed with commercial and financial responsibility.
- Act as a mentor for other team members within Networks.
Deliver on the APF Capability Roadmap for Network & Operations
- Contribute to the strategic direction of APF network & systems infrastructure
- Contribute to the network & systems evolution and project delivery as needed to meet APFN business requirements
- Maintain focus on best common practice, performance, scalability, efficiency, and security
- Shape for the network & systems capabilities envisioned and deployed by APFN, in conjunction with the network architecture and strategy teams.
- Deploy robust technical documentation to underpin automation & orchestration of our infrastructure aligning and supporting the systems architecture team.
About you:
We are looking for someone with
- Proven experience in Systems Administration, Platform Engineering, or a related role, working in a telecommunications carrier or network service provider, demonstrating expertise in automation/software.
- An understanding of using API, data models & structures, and documenting infrastructure in systems such as Netbox, Nautobot.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, and tooling such as Gitlab, Jenkins, etc
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Salt, and experience with programming languages such as Python, Go, Bash, to automate tasks and workflows representing infrastructure as code.
- Experience of using version control for managing code and configurations, e.g Git
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure) and container (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with Virtualisation hypervisors, e.g Proxmox, Vmware
- Experience with Linux systems administration, e.g. CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian
- Adept at detailed analytics and problem solving.
