NOC Engineer
NOC Engineers play a crucial role in ensuring the uninterrupted operation of a telecommunications network. They are responsible for monitoring network performance, identifying and resolving issues, and collaborating with various teams to maintain high-quality service for customers. This role demands a proactive approach to network management, strong technical skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure, particularly in critical situations like network outages. The role would suit someone with fibre knowledge and experience of Juniper and/or Cisco systems.
What you will be doing:
- Continuously monitor the telco network infrastructure, including switches, routers, servers, and other network equipment, to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Detect network faults, outages, and performance degradation and promptly respond to incidents by implementing necessary troubleshooting procedures.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues in a timely and efficient manner, identifying the root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain comprehensive records of network events, incidents, and resolutions. Update network diagrams, logs, and documentation as necessary.
- Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including firmware upgrades, patch management, and hardware replacements to prevent potential issues and improve network reliability.
- Work closely with other network and IT teams to ensure seamless communication and resolution of complex issues. Provide support for network engineers, system administrators, and other related professionals.
- Analyse network performance data and implement improvements to optimize the network's performance and capacity.
- Assist in maintaining network security by following security policies, applying best practices, and promptly addressing security incidents or breaches.
- Utilize network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SNMP, NMS, and ticketing systems) to track network performance and automate routine tasks.
- Work in shifts, as NOCs often provide 24/7 support to ensure network continuity.
About you
You will have:
- Proven experience with Juniper and Cisco networking equipment, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with CLI commands, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc.), and switch configurations on Juniper and Cisco platforms
- Certifications CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or JNCIA (Juniper Networks Certified Associate) are highly desirable.
